How to Install Oracle 11g Express Edition on Windows

Hello everybody!

You can find a quick step by step guide about installing Oracle 11g Express Edition on Windows here. I hope it is useful for you!

STEP 1

Go to this link to download Oracle 11g Express Edition. First accept the licence agreement and then click on whichever version is compatible with your operating system. I will go with Windows x64.

STEP 2

Unzip the downloaded folder and run the setup file. It will ask you to accept the licence agreement again. Say yes and continue.

You will be asked what directory you want to install the Oracle 11g like above. After specifiying it, you will need to set a password that you are going to use as SYS or SYSTEM later on.

Click next and wait. It may take a while. So you may want to go grab a cup of tea (this is what I did for sure!) :D When it is completed, click finish. This is your installation done. Now we have got a bit more to do.

STEP 3

Now go to START-> All Programs-> Oracle Database 11g Express Edition. And click on "Get Started" as shown below.

This will take you to Oracle Home Page which will look something like below.

It will ask a username and password. As mentioned before, you can use SYS or SYSTEM as a username and the password you specified earlier.

STEP 4

To create a new user click on "Application Express" and you can create a new user for yourself. Type the username and password you find fancy and you are good to go!

We also need to grant privileges and permissions to this new user. To do that click on "Run Sql Command Line. You can find it under Start-> All programs-> Oracle Database 11g Express Edition. After giving privileges to out new user, we can try creating a table with this user.

Hope to see you in the next blog post!
